Nancy, founder of Sunshine And Laughter, brings together her experience of working in many environments and with a variety of people from many backgrounds. From working for a large holiday company to caring for children with life-limiting illnesses and their families Nancy has gained a unique perspective of people, what brings them joy and peace.
Nancy’s work on the care team at two children’s hospices shaped who she is as a human being and the work that she delivers. As you can imagine, making the most of every day is an an important part of the hospice movement and the essence of this flows into all that Nancy has to offer.
Here is a message from Nancy:
What laughter, play and meditation has taught me is that they enable us to connect deeper with ourselves and others. And, for me, that is what being human is all about – connection.
I had already been practising meditation on and off for years when I first came across Laughter Yoga in 2012. I was curious and participated in an exercise at home with my youngest daughter. It was great fun and natural laughter ensued. At that point in my life I was going through great challenges, the moment passed and I didn’t think any more about it. I never thought of it as a practice. I convinced myself that I could laugh whenever I wanted. Who needs to do Laughter Yoga? Just stick on a funny film or hang out with your mates right?
Roll on to 2014. My life had changed considerably and I revisited my thoughts on laughter. Was I really laughing enough? I became thirsty for knowledge on the subject. It really piqued my interest that something so simple yet potentially so profound was within reach of all of us. So with my new found curiosity I booked myself onto a training course as a Laughter Yoga Leader. Wow! What an experience! Two days filled with laughter and learning catapulted me into a whole new way of thinking and being and as a result my life changed too. As I practised over the following months, along with my meditation practice, I found myself transforming. I felt more alive than I had done for years.
That was the beginning of my journey. I’m now a Certified Laughter Yoga Teacher (2015), Touch And Cuddle Therapist, Meditation Teacher and End of Life Doula sharing my skills throughout West Yorkshire, Greater Manchester and the UK.
Breathing, playfulness, connection.
Cultivating joy, cultivating peace.
Slowing down and being fully present.
Life is too short to lose ourselves in the seriousness of it all. It is but fleeting yet if we can bring presence and connection to each moment then that will be a life embraced.
Love, laughter and peace to you all
